Jacksons

KRS was challenged with the task of creating a design for the Jacksons flagship store and to help launch their new made-to-order program, Jacksons Kitchen. In addition to the kitchen area, Jacksons wanted to add an eat-in dining area, showers, and laundry facilities for the road-weary truckers. The multi-use facility would be a roadside haven for both families and truck travel alike.

Extra Mile

Expect the Extras! KRS was introduced to ExtraMile (EM) after they formed a joint venture with long time KRS client, Jacksons Food Stores. The idea was to highlight EM brand pillars (fun, fast, convenient), while still maintaining the look and feel of a traditional Jacksons location.

The goal of the new design was to clearly communicate to the person stepping through the door that they had entered a convenience store that was surprisingly well-stocked, easy to navigate, quick to check out of, with surprisingly good food and beverages.

A main focal point is the Mile One Coffee area featuring ExtraMile’s newly developed private label brand with flavor names all inspired by travel destinations. Coffee is always the first stop of your journey and you never know where that journey will take you.

Space Age Fuel

With convenience store locations across the Pacific Northwest and growing, Space Age Fuel required a new, flagship design concept to breathe fresh life into the store space and set Space Age above and beyond the competition. KRS’ bright, modern redesign spotlights the over 30 year old brand’s extensive fresh foods offering, a convenient go-to for hot and cold refreshments, snacks, and meals alike. Space Age Fuel is inviting to all, quick and intuitive to shop, and takes each customer (be they a soccer mom or a professional truck driver) through their path-to-purchase in an energized environment that feels good to experience, maximizes the floor space, and via a design that can be rolled out consistently to all Space Age Fuel locations.

Bartell Drugs

Since 1890, family-owned Bartell Drugs has been providing the Seattle area with complete drug store services. Today, with over 60 locations, Bartell Drugs is a Seattle institution. This Bellevue location is part of a larger store rollout for multiple Bartell Drugs stores. KRS developed a program which can be adapted to each location, allowing each design to be localized to the neighborhood it serves as well as the retail space it inhabits. In Seattle, where the sun can hide for days, it was important to provide a space that was energizing – Bartell’s design is bright, warm, clean, and uniformly comfortable.

Albertsons Express

The Albertsons Companies (ABSCO) reached out to KRS in order to bring a cohesive look to their newest offering- convenience stores. Each location was to stand alone as a separate destination and maintain the quality of an ABSCO store with the speed of convenience.

KRS created an upscale aesthetic that is easily adaptable in both size, and branding, so it provides a corporate-wide option to the ABSCO stores. The interior layout and design of each store were developed so that the format could be applied to a store ranging anywhere from 1,500 to over 5,000 square feet in size. Due to KRS’ extensive expertise, the store plan and merchandising options were modified from the original to produce a more cohesive space. The final design was clean and light with a focus on fresh product at a price within budget.

Green Zebra

The newest addition to Portland’s locally grown, organic grocery scene, Green Zebra is setting out to redefine the urban market with this c-store sized mart that focuses largely on fresh fare, right down to the beer in the fill-your-own growler bar. In designing the space, KRS repurposed original materials from the gutted building, including exterior brick brought inside and exposed clerestory along with douglas fir planks in the previously covered ceiling. An homage to the store’s Green Zebra namesake (a type of tomato) non-overt striping is incorporated throughout, including white-on-white randomly arranged subway tiles and striated formica case fronts.

Pacific Roads

Can a convenience store be cool? Absolutely. This flagship for petro distributor Tyree Oil is one of the most forward-thinking c-stores KRS has had the pleasure of both envisioning and creating. The store champions local product with fresh food catered daily, micro brews, a thoughtful wine selection, and warm, clean design. Directly en route to the airport and tourist spots, the small format market employs natural materials and themes of flora and fauna distinct to the Pacific Northwest, celebrating good, local life.

Pacific Convenience & Fuels

Leading convenience retailer PC&F brought in KRS to redesign its Denver International Airport location with a show stopping experience unlike any other. Unconventional and jaw-dropping with a local feel and high tech touches, this My Goods store is at once elaborate, over-the-top, and incredibly convenient.

This store is open 24/7/365, presenting a challenge when it came to execution of the design without interrupting store operations. We overcame this challenge by focusing on sections of the store, quickly and efficiently making our way through the renovation a piece at a time.

A Living Chandelier

KRS envisioned, detailed, and ultimately custom-built an elaborate center fixture chandelier to create mass impact in the dry product display space while showcasing a digital screen highlighting local Denver outdoor mountain conditions. Our unique lighting design concept employs a plethora of LED lights, effectively a show-stopping LED chandelier, computer controlled to allow for color/pulse lighting changes.
